AMPED Sports Lab employs modern development and training techniques for on-ice skills development and is excited to now be partnered with Concept Hockey and Sports Lab to offer the next level of athlete development with Cognitive Training.
Through partnerships with Concept Hockey and FitQuest, AMPED is the only training centre in North America to offer a Net Zero Facility and offer development programs that train all pillars of an athlete's development with on-ice skills (AMPED) , off-ice strength (FitQuest) and Cognitive Development (ConceptHockey), the triple threat to achieve elite level performance.
Cognition is essentially the mental function of gathering knowledge and processing it into usable intelligent thinking, situational awareness, judgement and problem solving. Cognitive abilities as applied to athletes and hockey are used to track player and puck movements, see the ice with a wide range of vision, anticipate the movements of opponents, recognize patterns, develop strategic awareness and make fast and efficient decisions.
In essence, cognitive training refers to how well you see movement in dense environments common in fast-moving sports.
Concept Hockey focuses exclusively on training underlying cognitive capacity that impact in-game performance such as perspicacity, visual acuity, processing speed, decision making and finally translating that process into efficient and effective movement or action all combining for optimized reaction speed.
One of the most formidable tasks for the brain of an athlete during game play is to perceive and integrate complex movement patterns while allocating attentional resources in different key areas of a fast paced dynamic scene.
Similar to physical training offered by AMPED for endurance, strength, flexibility and sport specific motor skills, elite caliber performance requires optimal cognitive proficiency. Concept Hockey's cognitive development system is based on ReactOS which revolves around a proprietary See, Process, Decide & Move system that unifies these four foundational components to achieve peak game speed and game intelligence commonly referred to as IQ.
Additional key features of the ReactOS training protocol is tracking with data analytics and the applied transfer of cognitive development directly into game situations. In order to benchmark performance improvement, participants are tested for a baseline on the SPDM index to gauge reactionary speed and overall cognitive capacity.
